The New Dog on the Block: Dog Haus

Being back in ICO as a 4th year can be tiring. Between being in clinic (always!), preparing for clinic, sending out resumes, and figuring out how to get a license, it’s hard to get the energy to cook a good meal. Fortunately, it seems like every day or so a new restaurant opens up in Chicago (even ICO’s Cafeteria is getting a new look.) One new opening, in particular, is worth trying: The Dog Haus.

Originally from the West coast (L.A.), it has decided to revitalize the classic Chicago style hot dogs we know and love. (We headed out to try these 4-5 hours before I had to squeeze into my outfit for ICO’s annual EyeBall!)

These hot dogs are not just made with mustard and ketchup (a debatable ingredient to begin with). Dog Haus tops their hot dogs and sausages with almost anything you can think of. Their corndogs are dipped in root beer batter!

The Dogs we tried:

The Sooo Cali– I ordered this and would definitely order again. It has wild arugula, spicy basil aioli, crispy onions, avocado, and tomato. I’m not a huge fan of arugula, but this dog was super good.

The Fonz – Our server said this was his favorite. Spicy Italian pastrami and cheddar cheese sauce.

Did I forget to mention their buns? For such a creative menu, these dogs are given the royal treatment and served on King’s Hawaiian rolls.

The atmosphere is nice, too! On one side is the food. On the other side is a bar with a full menu. It’s in Lincoln Park, so be ready for this to be one of the new best hangouts in the area.

The Dog Haus is the perfect place to reunite and relax with 4th years who are returning to ICO and trying to figure out their futures!
